Jane Gatanis, MS, OTR/L, CST-T

Jane Gatanis has a Masters in Science in Occupational Therapy and is a certified CranioSacral Therapist. She has been employed in many New York City hospitals and practices including Beth Israel Medical Center, the Hospital for Special Surgery, and NYU Rusk Institute and Integrative Pediatrics.

Since 1991 Jane has intensively studied CranioSacral Therapy and SomatoEmotional Release with Dr. John Upledger and the Upledger Institute, Visceral Manipulation with Jean-Pierre Barral, Lymphatic Drainage with Bruno Chikly and other modalities with the International Association of Healthcare Practitioners. She has studied with Dr. Michael Shea, Sheila Frick and is a graduate of the IM School of Healing Arts in New York City.

Jane has an extensive medical background in orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation, a specialty in unresolved injuries and complex pain, and combines her knowledge and skills in infant and pediatric Occupational Therapy in her CranioSacral Therapy and Manual Therapy practice.

Jane provides lectures and services for outreach programs throughout New York City at major hospitals, community based programs and medical practices including Cornell-Weill Hospital, Soho Parenting and Integrative Pediatrics.

  • N.Y.U. Rusk Institute, NYC: Clinician in adult physical rehabilitation for both neurological and orthopedic clients

  • Hospital for Special Surgery, NYC, orthopedic and hand therapy 

  • Beth Israel Medical Center, NYC,  developed an outpatient Hand Therapy department

  • Phillips Ambulatory Care Center, BIMC, NYC, designed and managed the new outpatient Physical Rehabilitation clinic at Union Square

  • Beth Israel Medical Center, NYC: Liaison to Pain and Palliative Care Department: provided manual therapy for clients with chronic and unresolved pain

  • American Refugee Committee, Evaluated and treated disabled children in Thai Refugee Camp. 1986-1987

  • Trauma Relief 9/11: International CST volunteers providing multiple hands treatment in NYC for victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

  • Introduced Upledger "Healing Hands"  to students at the United Nations International School

  • Published article for the Journal of Occupational Therapy: Experienced a year abroad providing OT to children with disabilities in a refugee camp in Thailand
